Richard Harman an experienced Specialist Surgeon

Affiliated with North Shore Hospital, Waitemata Surgeons, Melanoma Specialists, and the Auckland Breast Centre. His expertise includes Endocrine Surgery, particularly focusing on Thyroid, Parathyroid, and Adrenal surgeries, where he collaborates closely with endocrinologists (Thyroid Specialists). For Endocrine surgery he will see patients at the Waitemata Specialists.

Richard has been in private and public surgical practice for 20 years and is an experienced surgeon.
He has had leadership positions at Waitemata Health as Chief of Surgery and in the College of Surgeons as a Senior Examiner for the FRACS.

Experience in breast cancer & Melanoma surgery

In addition to his endocrine specialisation, Richard has extensive experience in breast cancer surgery through his work at the Auckland Breast Centre and lead the establishment of breastscreening in the Waitemata area.
Melanoma has also been a large part of his practice often overlapping with experioence in breast surgey(sentinel node biopsy and lymphadectomy). He has strong ties with the Sydney Melanoma Unit and the New Zealand Melanoma Foundation, enhancing his proficiency in these areas.

He has continued to lead and develop surgery in the North Shore and Auckland in public and private practice.

Consultant Surgeon in private and public practice North Shore Auckald

Since returning to NZ Richard has developed his practice in his areas of specialisation. He has been Head of Department for General surgery for over 10 years and then was appointed Chief of Surgery in 2019. He was senior examiner for NZ for the FRACS College of Surgeons. He has now resigned from these roles to  to focus on on his surgery and family for the remainder of his career. He enjoys a full life outside of surgery active in sailing, mountain biking, skiing and golf.
